Why Give a S**t?

You know what gets me? Why are humans and flies the only creatures who give a darn about sanitation everywhere? With every land animal, all they do is bathe themselves and their young, yet they don't give a shit about universal sanitation unlike people and flies. With people, every day, we have to deal with cleaning up our floors and windows, cleaning up toilets, taking out the trash, burying or burning the dead, you name it. It's like humans are competing with tortoises to see who can outlive who. Chimpanzees, our closest relatives, do none of that crap and they are completely content with a 30-year lifespan. Are we trying to give the middle finger to natural selection or something? Are we trying to push fate away from us? Why do we seek to clean everything up knowing that no other land animal does it?

You know what other creature has to deal with universal sanitation? Flies. Sure, there are other scavengers, but flies are pretty much the only scavenger I can think of that could adapt to human environments. Even so, flies have it worse than humans. Have a corpse lying around? Flies clean it up. Have garbage in a can? Flies clean it up. Have turds in a forest or someone's back yard? Flies clean it up. How do we thank flies for it? We squash the shit out of them. Come on! All flies want to do is clean every mess people and animals leave behind, and that's the thanks they get? How would you feel if you had to clean the entire planet and all the sudden... Wham! You get squashed? You'd feel pretty uncomfortable if not dead. Yeesh, where's your sensitivity?

And yes, I was intending to philosophically ask this question.
